Keto & Weight Loss

Weight-Loss.

The #1 Reason most people look into dieting by a wide margin. That's why I wanted to cover the topic as it pertains to the Keto Diet in more detail. So keep reading and let me know what you think, as the point of this blog is to bring each component of the Keto Diet down to an easier to understand level. I know that not everyone has the time to really sift through each and every dietary option out there so hopefully this will take a good chunk of the legwork out of it for you.

How Keto creates weight loss:

Basically, the Keto Diet transitions your body from using glucose, to using ketones as it's main energy supply. Because carbohydrates are all but cut out completely in the Keto diet, your glucose levels will drop significantly. By decreasing the amount of available glucose in your bloodstream, you force your body to adapt and begin ketosis. In ketosis, your body begins to break down stored fat into ketone bodies which are used as an alternative energy source. The best part is that ketosis is usually achieved within 2-5 days of following the Keto Diet, resulting in more rapidly noticeable results.

According to a study performed by Pulsus Group, Inc, the Keto Diet produced significant weight-loss results at each stage(8, 16, 24 weeks.) If you'd like to read the rest of the study I highly encourage you to do so here, otherwise I will try to sum up the aspect of the weight-loss results here:

In the study, the average weight of the 83 patients was 222.73 ±5.13 lbs(101.03 ±2.33 kg.) By week 8 the average had dropped to 200.84 ±6.08 lbs(91.10 ±2.76 kg.) At the 16 week mark the average had dropped again to 197.07 ±7.5 lbs(89.39 ±3.40 kg.) On the 24th week the average continued to drop to 191.07 ±8.16 lbs(86.67 ±3.70 kg.) This shows an average in the ballpark of a 30 lb (13.6 kg) weight loss over a 24 week period using the Keto Diet.

Not only was weight on average significantly reduced, but body mass index (BMI) as well. Initial BMI average was 37.77±0.79 kg/m². During the study BMI significantly decreased in the 8th, 16th, and 24th weeks to 33.90±0.83 kg/m², 33.2±1.00 kg/m², and 32.06±1.13 kg/m² respectively. This is around a 15% decrease in BMI in the course of just 24 weeks.

In Closing:

Adjusting your body to survive on fat stores as opposed to glucose has some profound results in weight-loss as well as body mass index. These results are both compelling and encouraging to those who would like to/need to lose weight somewhat rapidly on their quest to become healthy. This is just one of the applications of the Keto Diet. We will dive into the others (Diabetes, Cancer, etc.) soon. I hope you enjoyed and don't forget to subscribe for more!
